Animals

Ever since I was a kid they have fascinated me. I used to spend hours leafing through books about animal life that I still have in my studio today. My familiarity with them is not only bookish. The summers in the 1980s at the country house with my paternal grandparents and the walks I take nowadays allow a continuous contact that is fundamental to me. I enjoy watching animals and continue to build my knowledge of them, especially birds and dragonflies of which I am an avowed admirer.

I used animal copulation scenes for the first time as a way to circumvent potential censorship of an exhibition. Animal sexuality is not a taboo subject and allows me to investigate the interactions of bodies. The theme interests me primarily for the visual tension it allows on drawing. The comic character of copulation situations allows me to work humor in a subtle way, mostly without the need for written words.
